Botox or Botulinum toxin type A is a natural protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In recent decades, it has been used in medicine when muscle spasm (spasm) needs to be relaxed.
In ophthalmology, we use it to treat:
Botox is injected in very small amounts into the targeted muscle responsible for wrinkles, blocking its action to eliminate dynamic wrinkles.
Botox application takes about 15 minutes and is a nearly painless process. The effect of Botox starts within 2-5 days, with the strongest effect visible after 3-4 weeks. The action lasts for 3-6 months. The skin appears younger, and refreshed, maintaining a natural facial appearance.
We use it to remove horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, vertical wrinkles on the forehead (so-called frown lines), and fine wrinkles on the outer corners of the eyes (so-called laugh lines).
After the treatment, frequent facial expressions (smiling, frowning, raising the forehead and eyebrows) are recommended to integrate Botox into the targeted muscles and start its effect earlier. It is not recommended to sleep, exercise with the head down, or undergo dental procedures for the next 4 hours.
After application, small red papules may remain at the injection sites, disappearing within a few hours.
The effect lasts from 4 to 8 months, and the application can be repeated an unlimited number of times if there are no contraindications.
Contraindications for Botox application are hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, pregnancy, breastfeeding, generalized diseases of the muscular system (e.g., myasthenia gravis, Eaton Lambert syndrome), and skin infections at the injection site.
